As told by Jack Brown "MS Race Historian": I had not seen that #1 Hornet car of Doc Bass in a looooooooooooong time.  Clarence Simms usually drove it .  I was not even aware that Curley drove it.  Had an unusual exhaust noise that buzzed, thus the name "hornet"  Yellow and white 40 Ford.
