The Beatles Paul & Linda McCartney and Twin Oaks Speedway

In 1975 I was at the Majik Market convenience store, formerly EZ, at the corner of Railroad St. & Alexander Rd.

in our home town of Long Beach Mississippi. They had a really nice magazine selection, were open 24 hours /
7 days a week and didn't mind loitering. Reading the magazines, without necessarily buying them wasn't a prob-
lem with them either ( Late at night the female clerks didn't like being alone in the store anyway ).

Other than the latest issues of MAD or National Lampoon, I enjoyed the music magazines which included a
publication still in circulation "Guitar Player". Close to the last page in the current issue featured a photo of
Beatle Paul McCartney, who was captured with his guitar, but his tee shirt was what eventually caught my eye.

Clearly visible on his shirt, above his guitar, it said "Twin Oaks Speedway" with a motocross jumper on his
motor bike, and below his guitar it said "Long Beach, Mississippi". I had seen these shirts worn around the
coast so much, I guess I ignored it at first. It took a bit, but then context set in.

I mentioned this to a few people and was told by more than one that McCartney had friends that lived on Wolf
River. He enjoyed the area because he was rarely if ever recognized and was pretty much left alone. I had heard
similar stories over the years about others, but never could confirm or deny ( I should have purchased the maga-
zine, but didn't. Several people doubted what I was telling them ).

Twin Oaks Speedway was in operation off of Pineville Road, in Long Beach, from around 1972 until 1990 the
best I can determine. Old photographs are available on line to a degree.

Click the link below to see the article I found not too long ago and was thrilled, although the bottom half of the shirt is not visible in the two attached photos ( Linda is playing a tuba in one shot ).
